CAIB self-consumption

The CAIB self-consumption plan aims to increase the penetration of renewable energies in the public sector and to achieve the energy self-sufficiency of the CAIB, making the most of as many regional spaces as possible.

The IBE finances the investments, carries out their maintenance and energy management, and bills the electricity to the CAIB at cost price.

The economic model pursues three goals:

  1. Reduction of the carbon footprint and savings on the administration’s electricity bill.
  2. Financial self-sufficiency of the Institute.
  3. Reinvestment of part of the returns from the photovoltaic projects –approximately one third– in new energy-saving measures.

Objectives of the CAIB self-consumption plan 2027

  • 66.5 MW of renewables
  • 626 MWh/year produced
  • 91 million euros of investment
  • 13 million euros of expected annual savings
  • 50,900 fewer tonnes of CO2/year
  • 35% energy self-supply of the CAIB

Project included in the programme of incentives linked to self-consumption and storage, with renewable energy sources, in the services sector and other productive sectors of the economy, under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
